My comments on your post # 3...Look forward to your post # 4!

Hi, everyone

Time flies! We are in Week 4 now.

I enjoy reading your post # 3. Most of you did a great job in explaining how you’ve used MS Word as a student (both in K-12 and at FSU) and how you’ve seen your teachers use it.

Regarding copyright and fair use, most of you suggested that Turnitin should be used to check for plagiarism. Some of you like Evelyn talked about we should cite all kinds of sources appropriately. One way to avoid the violation of copyright laws is to find a healthy balance in referencing and using old material for support while constructing original ideas and work, as suggested by Erika.

All of you did a great job in discussing how to address the technology implementation issues that you are interested in. If you have time, you might want to check Jacob's post. The way he approached academic dishonesty and cyber-bullying was thoughtful and eloquent!

I am glad to see all of you left at least two comments on your peers' post # 3.

I am looking forward to checking your post # 4!
Your fourth post should contain:
  • A paragraph about your prior online learning experience. Describe what learning management system (LMS) was used, synchronous or asynchronous communication with the instructor or classmates, and your perception of online learning versus classroom learning.
  • A paragraph about open educational resources (OER).  Describe these resources in your own words.  Find an online resource (blog post about OER, examples of OER materials, an article about OER, etc.), provide a brief synopsis, and link it to your blog.
  • A paragraph on new skills you acquired from working on the Newsletter Design assignment and reflect what you like about it/what you don’t like about it, how you can improve it next time, and how what you learned from the assignment can be used in your future career. Insert your assignment on your blog. You can insert screenshots of your Newsletter Design assignment as pictures to your blog.
  • You can add a simple paragraph indicating who you commented to when editing your blog or add the paragraph as a comment to your own post.

Look forward to reading your post # 3!

Hi, everyone
It's Week 3. So far, all of you did a great job in this class.
I enjoy reading your blog journal # 2, from which I knew better how you grew up surrounded by technology and how you perceived ISTE standards. You all made good points about what is influencing technology use by teachers and students. Here, I would like to point out that teachers are also learners to some extent, as some of you argued. Like me, I am still learning about new technologies and new things from you, my advisor, my colleagues, and online resources.
I am glad to see most of you commented on your peers' posts to exchange ideas. Please keep up the great work! If you have time, I encourage you to go back to your blog # 2, read comments from your peers, and reply if you like.
I am looking forward to reading your post # 3!
Your third post should contain:
  • A paragraph on how you’ve used MS Word as a student (both in K-12 and at FSU) and how you’ve seen your teachers use it.
  • A paragraph about your experience with copyright and fair use of materials in an educational environment. How would you deal with these concepts as a teacher, developing your own instructional materials and having students create their own works?
  • Select 2 of the technology implementation issues listed below.  Propose a solution to each issue that you could implement in your classroom.  Be specific.
    • Academic dishonesty
    • Cyberbullying
    • Decreased productivity
    • Lack of funding
    • Student privacy
  • You can add a simple paragraph indicating who you commented to when editing your blog or add the paragraph as a comment to your own post.

Look forward to checking your blog post # 2!

Hi, everyone

It's Week 2. I look forward to checking your blog post # 2!

Reminder: Each prompt must include at least 4 sentences for a passing grade.
I enjoyed reading your first blog post and learned a lot about you. I learned your prior experience with technologies was varied. This is great. I am so glad to have you all in the class. We will work together to achieve your learning goals.

Your second post should contain:
  • What influences teachers and students to use technology in the classroom?
  • A paragraph in which you reflect on the ISTE Standards for Educators. Specifically, cite 1 standard that is meaningful to you and 1 that seems outside your current skill set.  (Include an explanation).
  • A paragraph on whether or not you agree with the label “digital native” for today’s youth. What does it mean to be a digital native? Have you seen differences between how you (digital native) and most of your teachers (digital immigrants) use technology? If so, describe them and what their impact has been on your learning experience. What differences do you anticipate between you and your future students in terms of how you use technology?
  • A simple paragraph indicating who you commented to.

Remember that you should leave at least two comments to two classmates. You are encouraged to read most of your peers' posts if possible.
